entanglement, 2019

Entanglement is a piece like no other. Built for a specific-sized gallery room but capable of limitless hanging options, it is an interactive textile installation designed to surround visitors with joy and bring attention to what it feels like to be entangled in Ryanne’s mind. Ryanne uses similar techniques from previous tapestry creations Turn Into A Sunrise and Turn Into A Sunset to create this work, which to this day she still calls her Magnum Opus; or masterpiece.

Warm shades of fabric and yarn drape across the space and the addition of playful stuffing gives the individual comfort, so much so they may even rest in the installation (as seen below). Being in Entanglement is like being in a dream; an abstract, pocket-sized landscape; an eternal sunset.

Yet being entangled can also bring an element of anxiety, which is something Ryanne deals with daily. Ryanne is interested in providing a sliver of insight into how her brain can process joy and anxiety simultaneously; how her ADHD and OCD combat one another in a (un)graceful dance between states of mind.

Entanglement’s debut was in November 2019 for two weeks at ‘The Tiny Fist Gallery’ at Sheridan College Oakville. The subsequent time Entanglement was shown was for two nights in October 2022 at the ‘RAW Artists Toronto Showcase’.
