PASTEL, 2018

PASTEL is an impasto landscape; meaning a thickly applied, three-dimensional painting. This work was another journey through the canvas from one side to the other without a pre-drawn plan, and became an ethereal land with scattered rippling water rings in cotton-candy colours.

This work was a cathartic piece for me, as I painted this work during a dark and stressful time in my life. I was looking to escape from the unhealthy living situation I was in, and colours like these lift me from a deep place and bring me great joy. I am happy to look back at this work and see how I was still blooming, even when I was being displaced and had nowhere to live.
